Treasured tree ornaments

Each year I enjoy hanging up a set of ornaments bought at the Crystal Cathedral in Orange County, California in 2006. That Christmas eve I heard a wonderful sermon from the late Robert H. Schuller which contained a family yarn about unwrapping a nativity set and not seeing the baby in his crib. Where was he? An anxious hunt ensued to make good the incomplete set. The figure of the baby had almost been discarded with the wrapping papers. The lesson was: in life, look for the baby. The little baby. Look for the vulnerable little one in all our lives. Indeed, I now think the protective wrapping is itself a metaphor….
